AGIP has played a dynamic role in the Arab world andbeyond, working tirelessly to improve protection and informing both governmentofficials and the business community of the social and economic benefits to begarnered through increased respect for intellectual property rights.
Many of the activitiesof AGIP, which have sprung from its core service offerings, are directed atgeneral capacity building of IP infrastructure. A particular focus is applied to developing human capital through training and knowledge transfer.We use our professional training systems and facilities to organize IPtraining courses for members of the judiciary, district attorneys and customsofficials in various countries, including but not limited to, Jordan,Kurdistan, West Bank, Gaza, Bahrain and Egypt.

Drafting Laws

Since its establishment, AGIP has encouraged the introduction ofintellectual property laws and an efficient IP system to the Arab world.

AGIP exerted its utmostefforts in coordination and collaboration with, both regional and internationalassociations to improve the infrastructure for intellectual property protectionin the Arab world.
This was manifestedthrough its assistance and continued support provided to governmentalcommittees and officials charged with revising and drafting new laws andregulations for the enforcement of intellectual property rights in several Arabcountries such as Bahrain, Yemen, Oman, Tunisia and Afghanistan. 

Publications

AGIP has contributed tothe advancement of intellectual property protection through the publishing of many original and translated works. These include intellectual propertyguides co-published with WIPO, original works published through Kluwer LawPublishing, and many others self-published in the Arab region.

  a. IntellectualProperty Laws in the Arab Countries

Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh has compiled IP Laws of the ArabCountries, which were published by Kluwer Law International. It is composed ofmore than 1000 pages of intellectual property laws, which were collected fromall Arab countries, and translated into English. This virtually completecollection of relevant instruments, and inaccurate up-to-date English translations,is exactly what is needed to inspire confidence and spur the successfulmarketing of products throughout the Arab world.


It is considered animportant reference for transitional businessmen, counsels, jurists andacademics providing complete details in such areas of practice as thefollowing: the eligibility for protection, registration and renewal procedures,dispute resolution, succession of rights, enforcement of penalties forinfringement and administrative and judicial remedies. The book is aninvaluable guide, outlining the rights and duties of all parties interested inconducting any type of business or trade in this important part of the world.

  b. Abu-GhazalehIP Dictionary


Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh hasalso compiled the “Abu-Ghazaleh IP Dictionary” providing for the first time acomprehensive listing of English-Arabic translations and definitions of theIntellectual Property terminology used in the Arab world.
It provides aninnovative, highly specialized and detailed explanation in Arabic of the termsmost commonly used in the context of intellectual property. It will help todevelop and increase Arab understanding and appreciation of the concept ofintellectual property with its ever-increasing importance in today’s world.
