AGIP Attends 2024 International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property
28-Oct-2024 HANGZHOU – The 2024 International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) has commenced in Hangzhou, marking the first time in the association's 127-year history that the event is being held in China. Co-hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and AIPPI, and organized by the Hangzhou Municipal Government and AIPPI China, the congress brings together approximately 2,300 intellectual property professionals from 92 countries and regions, including over 1,500 international participants.
The theme of this year's congress is "Balanced Protection and Innovative Development of Intellectual Property," reflecting a commitment to promoting IP systems that encourage innovation while ensuring fair and effective IP protection. During the opening ceremony, Zhang Guoqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, read a congratulatory letter from President Xi Jinping. In his letter, President Xi emphasized China’s dedication to advancing IP protection and building a strong IP nation. He stated that China is eager to collaborate with the international community to uphold the multilateral IP system, foster an environment conducive to innovation, and contribute Chinese solutions to global IP governance.
AGIP was represented at the congress by Ms. Noor Shangwei, President of the AGIP Greater China region. During the event, she engaged with colleagues from across China, discussing global trends in IP policies and practical issues to explore potential collaboration opportunities. “We aim to create more opportunities for cooperation and provide better support for our clients,” Ms. Shang said, highlighting AGIP's ongoing commitment to global IP cooperation.
The AIPPI World Intellectual Property Congress has grown to become one of the most influential gatherings in the IP sector, drawing the largest number of participants and the broadest representation of countries and regions. This year's congress marks a historic milestone as the first to be held in China, demonstrating the international community’s recognition of China’s achievements in IP. It also serves as a vital platform for fostering exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and global IP professionals, contributing to a global IP governance framework based on consultation, cooperation, and shared benefits, with Chinese wisdom and solutions at its core.
