Customs and Border Protection Service
01-Jul-2024 Customs recordation, often known as customs registration, is a powerful tool that allows IP holders to prevent counterfeit items from being released into the local market. It entails registering IPRs with customs, enabling them to locate and confiscate infringing products at borders. By partnering with customs officers, businesses can effectively resist IP infringements and safeguard their products.
In this regard, AGIP is working closely with government authorities to enhance the enforcement of trademarks and relevant IPRs in all countries and to prevent the spread of counterfeit products and cross borders movement of counterfeit goods. To this end, AGIP has signed several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with governmental authorities and encourages clients to register their trademarks with customs departments in countries that adopt this approach, viewing it as the first line of defense against counterfeiting and infringement.
