Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property Holds Workshop on International Trademark Registration
19-Jul-2024 CAIRO - The German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GACIC) has selected Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) to carry out a training workshop for its members on the importance of trademarks and the procedures of international registration.
The workshop was organized as part of the Chamber's keenness on promoting the importance of international trademark registration and its economic impact on trademark stakeholders.
Ms. Maha Jostel, Director of the Legal Department at the GACIC, has expressed the Chamber's pride in cooperating with AGIP in conducting the workshop, noting that organizing such a workshop comes in line with the objectives of the Chamber in developing the skills and knowledge of its members for the purposes of developing trade cooperation relations not just between Germany and Egypt but with the Arab world as well.
It is worth mentioning that the workshop was presented by Ms. Heba Salman, lawyer at AGIP Egypt Office, where she introduced the participants to the definition and concept of a trademark under Egyptian law. She also discussed the requirements of trademark registration in Egypt to enjoy legal protection, and methods of its protection.
Ms. Salman further reviewed the mechanism of international trademark protection and the steps of international registration via the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO); outlining its features and benefits. In addition, she talked about the Madrid Protocol which allows a trademark owner to obtain trademark protection in any or all member states by filing one application.
