Bahrain and the USA Sign Agreement on Fast-Track System for Technical Examination of Patents
20-Jun-2024 MANAMA - Bahrain and the United States signed an agreement to cooperate on applying a fast-track system for technical examination of patents (PPH) with the US Patent Office. The signing ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Mr. Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, Minister of Industry and Commerce, representing Bahrain, and H.E. Kathy Vidal, Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the US Patent and Trademark Office, representing the United States.
The fast-track system aims to accelerate the examination of patent applications by leveraging international cooperation between patent offices. This agreement will enable Bahrain's patent office to benefit from expertise and resources shared by other major patent offices around the world. In turn, this will enhance Bahrain's competitiveness as a hub for innovation and technology development.
The Minister commended this step, which propels the Kingdom of Bahrain towards a stronger intellectual property sector. Bahrain's focus on safeguarding intellectual property rights sends a clear signal that it is a country that values innovation and creativity, making it an attractive destination for investors.
Bahrain is committed to strengthening its intellectual property and patent registration framework through a comprehensive plan, developed in partnership with the Prime Minister's Office.
