New Domain Names Policy Adopted in Jordan
30-Jun-2024 AMMAN – The Jordan domain names Registry has announced new instructions regarding domain name registration in Jordan. The newly adopted instructions were published in the official gazette on June 13, 2024 and have taken effect.
The key changes brought by the new instructions are summarized as follows:
• Domain names will be suspended if renewal fees are not paid within 30 days from the date of expiry, with a possibility to reactivate the domain name within 60 days from the date of suspension after paying the due renewal fees. If not, the domain name will be available for registration by any interested party.
• Other parties can electronically object to the Registry's decision to accept a domain name registration within 30 days, with the option to take the objection to court if the dispute over the domain name continues.
It is worth noting that the new instructions will not affect existing registrations, nor will they affect new registrations with respect to fees and required documents.
The Registry's responsibilities have been transferred to a new unit in the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship instead of the National Information Technology Center (NITC).
