In case you create a unique design, the design would automatically be protected by Copyright. If you incorporate this unique design into an article, you can register and protect it under an Industrial Design. In this case, your artistic work may be protected by both Copyright and Industrial Design.

Colors, verbal elements, sounds, and industrial drawings (two-dimensional elements) cannot be protected as a design in Iran.

A trademark is a sign used to identify the products or services of a particular company, whereas design is the appearance of a good. Therefore, 3D trademark registration is recommended if the shape is not only able to characterize a company but it is also abstract enough to function as a logo. Design registration is recommended if the appearance of a good is designed with novelty.
It is worth noting that a design can be protected for up to 15 years in Iran. However, the trademark registration can be renewed every 10 years with no time limitation.
