AGIP India Participates in a Conference on Trademark Laws & Practices

NEW DELHI - The Indian Institute of Intellectual Property Research organized the "10th International Conference on International Trademark Laws and Practices," in association with the Technology Information Forecasting & Assessment Council (Ministry of Science and Technology) in New Delhi, December 19-21, 2005.
The conference brought together international trademark attorneys, brand consultants and intellectual property (IP) counsellors who examined trademark laws and practices in Europe, USA, Gulf countries and China.

"The key objective of the conference concentrated on examining recent changes in IP laws and protection practices," said Mr. Khalid Al-Khalidi, Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) India office manager, who attended the event.

"The conference was a platform to understand, deliberate and clarify all issues related to trademarks," Mr. Al-Khalidi added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Al-Khalidi took part in the "WIPO National Seminar on Enhancing Global Competitiveness of Indian Life Sciences Industry through the Strategic Use of the Patent System," which was held in New Delhi, December 5-6.

The seminar was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), in cooperation with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

Speakers discussed the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), licensing, IP conflict management and the growing importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution, as well as the commercialization of pharmaceutical and biotechnological inventions.

"Along with examining patents thoroughly, several case studies related to successful licensing and WIPO mediation were presented," Mr. Al-Khalidi concluded.
