Ratification of Plant Variety Protection Law

The Sultanate of Oman on October 8, 2000 ratified the new Plant Variety Protection Law No. 2000/92. Oman, this year has updated and added new laws to its legal structure in a drive to improve the laws in accordance with TRIPS. This law will come into effect once the Minister of Agriculture and Fishery Resources issues the implementing regulations. Accordingly, protection will be granted for owners of Plant varieties for 20 years, and 25 years for tree plants and vines, from the date of registration.
