Abu-Ghazaleh Receives Award from the Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

AMMAN - Deputizing for Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman and CEO of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), Luay T. Abu-Ghazaleh, vice-chairman received on  Monday an honorary award presented by the Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights (AFPIPR), according to ag-IP-news Agency.

The award was bestowed to Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, as a pioneer and advocate in the field on Intellectual Property (IP) protection field regionally and globally, during a ceremony held under the patronage of Head of the Jordanian Judicial Council, Ratib Alwazani.

Talal Abu-Ghazaleh is considered one of the most distinguished personalities in the Intellectual Property domain, whose organization occupies a position of great repute in the Arab world and internationally.

The celebration, which was organized during AFPIPR’s celebration of the Arab Intellectual Property Day, which takes place on December 7, also included the honoring of the former Egyptian Minister, Dr. Ahmad Juweili, general secretary of the Council of Arab Economic Unity.

The Egyptian General Secretary of Intellectual Property Eng. Talat Zayid, stated that the celebration is the first of its kind to be organized in Amman, and it came upon the recommendations of the Arab Economic Union Council, and in recognition of the prominent Jordanian role in the IP field within the legislative and procedural environment present within the Kingdom that guarantees IP protection for all right-holders.

The former minister of finance, Sami Qamwah, head of the AFPIPR Council of Secretariats, Jordanian branch, affirmed that the celebration of this day in Amman is a reassurance of the Kingdom’s pioneering role and contribution in the protection of Intellectual Property, which takes a vast space in the Jordanian legal culture, and as an honor for the important role of the Jordanian economy and Jordanian citizens in this area.

Celebrating the Arab IP Day, the Federation held a specialized seminar at the Jordanian Bar Association to which lawyers and other interested parties attended, which was chaired by the Head of the Association, Ahmad Tbeishat.

The seminar tackled the basics of Intellectual Property and Arbitration in which experts addressed the concept of IP, its impact on the economy, arbitration and its advantages.

In addition, more detailed information was presented about the Federation’s Arbitration Center (ACIP) that was established by a resolution of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, as the first Arab international body affiliated to the Arab Federation for the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights. It has been publicized during the Second Arab Customs Meeting, which was held in Aqaba –Jordan on June 16, 2009. ACIP has the same privileges and immunities enjoyed by the Council of Arab Economic Unity in accordance with the Statute of the Federation.

Based on the objective of ACIP in promoting a culture of arbitration, it aims to create a new generation of arbitrators capable to resolve conflicts of the all types - locally and globally - in various areas as well as to know how to handle the complexities of such conflicts.
