NEW DELHI - In a move that signals the strong and deep relations between Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property (AGIP) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), two high-ranking officials from WIPO visited AGIP office in New Delhi on November 15, 2006.

Yo Takagi, executive director of the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Development at WIPO and Anil Sinha, head of the Research and Executive Program, at the WIPO Worldwide Academy met with Khalid Al-Khalidi, AGIP India Office manager and discussed challenges facing Intellectual Property (IP) professionals in India.

The discussion also focused on the strategic importance of IP in the future economic, social and cultural development of India as well as ways of further reinforcing and modernizing India's IP system.

"We were impressed by AGIP's leading role in protecting and spreading awareness of IP worldwide," Takagi who also oversees the work of the Academy said.

Stressing the importance of training for professionals, Takagi added, "WIPO has an important agenda in developing countries including India as far as training needs of mid-career professionals are concerned.
